This includes an examination of injured body parts or areas of concern, as well as how it relates to the whole body. It is essential that we perform a detailed assessment in order to make a diagnosis and develop the right treatment plan for you. Your initial appointment will include an assessment and your first treatment.

Ligament sprain
Muscle strain
Tendinopathy
Overuse injuries (ie. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, “Tennis Elbow” and running injuries)
Joint dislocations

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles in your pelvis that support your organs against gravity. Vestibular Rehabilitation is a specialized type of physiotherapy meant to alleviate vertigo symptoms including, dizziness, imbalance, or falls. This treatment focuses on your vestibular system – the part of your inner ear that controls stability and balance.

Dizziness is common and can have many causes. Dizziness is often associated with feeling light-headed (for example, the feeling you get when you stand up too quickly) or being off-balance. Vertigo is less common. It is the sensation of movement even when you are still and is often described as a spinning or rocking feeling.

Vertigo is commonly caused by a disorder of the inner ear or vestibular system called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This is when tiny crystals become dislodged in your inner ear and move into areas they are not supposed to be, resulting in a feeling of vertigo and often nausea. BPPV is often characterized by severe, sudden episodes of vertigo when your head is moved, like when rolling in bed or looking upward.

How can vestibular rehabilitation help?
Treatment for vertigo or dizziness will vary depending on the cause of your symptoms. It can be as simple as specialized techniques performed in the clinic to help your vertigo or may include home exercises to improve your dizziness. Both dizziness and vertigo can significantly impact your life and prevent you from doing the things you enjoy. If you are experiencing dizziness or vertigo, we recommend booking an assessment with our qualified vestibular physiotherapist to determine if vestibular rehabilitation is right for you.

Concussion Management
A concussion is defined as a mild traumatic brain injury induced by a hit to the head or whiplash-type injury. This causes shearing and twisting of the brain tissue and creates a mismatch between the energy supply and demand within the brain. It often leads to a temporary functional disturbance and patients may experience various symptoms, including but not limited to headaches, dizziness, sensitivity to light/noise, emotional imbalance, etc.

An acute concussion should be assessed and managed by a healthcare practitioner within days of the injury. This is, of course, important to prevent a potential secondary and fatal injury but also to optimize recovery and return to sport when appropriate. If symptoms persist beyond two weeks in an adult and four weeks in an adolescent, that is defined as Post Concussion Syndrome.

Treatment
Our certified therapists are able to provide treatment for both acute concussion and Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS). Assessment of acute concussion or PCS in the clinic includes screening to rule out serious injuries, a thorough patient history questionnaire (ie. how the injury happened, previous concussions, symptoms, etc), evaluating eye movement and coordination with the inner ear, as well as an assessment of the neck.

Patients will receive education regarding concussion management at home which includes information specific to their condition (ie. appropriate cognitive or physical activity, retraining for the inner ear and eyes, and/or exercise prescription for the neck). You may also receive hands on treatment in the clinic for neck dysfunction. Guidance will be provided for a safe return to sport, school or work, based on recent research. If a more serious injury is suspected, the therapist may refer the patient back to their medical doctor at any point in the recovery process.

Massage Therapy can provide numerous benefits including improving and maintaining overall health and wellness. It relaxes tight muscle tissue, which can lead to a decrease in nerve and joint compression and range of motion. This can help to relieve and/or eliminate your aches and pains. Our Registered Massage Therapist currently offers Traditional Swedish Massage, Therapeutic, Deep Tissue, and Prenatal massage techniques.

Traditional Swedish Massage
Traditional Swedish massage is the foundation of most massages; it is best known for basic stroke techniques such as Effleurage, Petrissage, Friction and Tapotement. Your therapist will use long, soft gliding strokes that will contour the body. Swedish massage strokes help to increase circulation and promote a state of relaxation.

Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage is used for both relaxation as well as corrective massage. The massage therapist puts the client in a relaxed state while working out some of the muscle issues you may be experiencing. This type of massage is used to relieve pain and maintain the wellness of muscles.

Deep Tissue
One trouble area is mainly focused on during a deep tissue massage. Sustained pressure and deep, slow strokes are used by the therapist. Deep tissue massage helps to break up scar tissue that can form after an injury or strain, which can help promote healing, increased range of motion and general wellness of your muscles.

Prenatal Massage
There are many benefits to prenatal massage; it is known to decrease stress, reduce anxiety and symptoms of depression as well as maintain muscle wellness throughout your pregnancy. Prenatal massage addresses the discomfort pregnant women may experience due to hormonal changes throughout pregnancy. The therapist uses a light stroke called effleurage which will put a client in a relaxed state. Effleurage is known to help relieve some tension the client may have however the therapist is unable to apply a lot of pressure during a prenatal massage.

Hi, I am Kristine Cline!

Red Deer has been called home for me since 2008, and is the community my family has grown to love. I first moved here with a diploma in a program called Fitness Leadership and used those credentials to gain experience working as a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. Once my family was complete by adding two boys to the mix, I worked at multi disciplinary clinic where I worked as an exercise therapist/clinic assistant. There I learned a great deal about the rehabilitation setting and after 4.5 years in that role decided to pursue a career in Massage Therapy. In 2017, I graduated with honours from NIMT with the Advance Therapeutic Massage Diploma and have completed training in the following specialties: Cancer Care, Oncology Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Pre-Natal Massage and Myofascial Cupping.

In my spare time, I have always been a fan of outdoor activities. I enjoy going on walks, hiking, camping, downhill skiing and gardening. I am also a huge Nascar fan and love to watch the races whenever I can.

I am passionate about helping people return to their daily activities after injury or illness and will work with individuals until the best results are achieved.

Specialties Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses a light pressure and rhythmic movements to stimulate lymph flow. It is a safe, effective, yet gentle approach to cleansing the body’s tissues. MLD drains excess fluid from the tissues and also has a detoxifying effect. Individuals who have had a mastectomy or surgical procedures where lymph nodes have been removed are at higher risk for increased swelling and lymph accumulation in the area. Manual Lymphatic Drainage is all about moving fluid and moving fluid requires a skillful touch, gentle manipulations of the skin and slow movements.

Individuals that suffer from any of the following may benefit from MLD: - individuals who frequently experience fluid retention, - lymphedema, - have sinusitis or seasonal allergies, - irritable bowel syndrome - fibromyalgia, - carpal tunnel syndrome, golfers/tennis elbow, - easy bruising and edema Post- injury: MLD can be used as part of a post-sports and post-injury RICE protocol when clients are unable to receive deep tissue or other massage that would be contraindicated Before or after surgery: pre/post surgery as a way to prepare tissues for incision. MLD also promotes healing and tissue health post surgery, helping prevent infection and complications. For Pain relief: MLD stimulates the vital functions of the skin, tissues and internal organs and also helps eliminate cellular waste and stimulate the parasympathetic relaxation response, inhibiting muscle tension and pain.

Oncology massage is a comfort care specialty service that takes into account the side effects that cancer patients may experience during cancer treatments. Massage therapy has been classified as a complementary service that is highly beneficial to people who have experienced a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime.

Whether you’ve just been diagnosed, are currently undergoing treatments, or have been cancer free for a period of time, massage therapy can help manage symptoms and get you back to your new normal. Oncology Massage will not claim to cure cancer, but rather to help reduce symptoms associated with certain treatments and medications. The overall goal with oncology massage is to work with your specialized medical team to provide care by helping to manage side effects, such as: - Stress - Anxiety - Nausea - Fatigue - Muscle Tension - Scar Tissue - Depression - Pain

An Oncology massage will take into account the clients current medications and how the body responds to them, adjusted positioning to accommodate surgical sites, medical hardware, treatment sites and other pathologies that are known to arise to individuals undergoing treatments.

A massage treatment plan will be discussed to promote the most beneficial results for the client. As the motto with oncology massage is to “do no harm” a progressive plan is ideal once the individual response to massage has been determined. Oncology massage starts with a light gentle pressure as the body may not respond the same to pressure once undergoing medical treatments.
